Job Summmary
This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer (OCHCO), LEADS Academic Programs Division. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct instruction in support of the component's core curriculum and offer elective courses focusing on homeland security for students across the University. Job Duties
As an Assistant Associate Professor, GS-1701-15, your typical work assignments may include: Developing and delivering core national security and homeland security elective courses which align with the mission, mission, and guiding principles of the National and Homeland Strategies and aligns with the academic mission of the National Defense University and its components. Preparing and delivering lectures and seminar instruction in the fields of national security policy, national strategies and security related subject matters. Serving as one of the National Defense University (NDU) President's senior advisors and technical experts on homeland security and national security development issues and keeps abreast of new policies, procedures, regulations, directives, priorities, etc. related to DHS and homeland security. Serving as a faculty advisor to students in academic program decisions, in selection of topics for individual and group research, in research methods, and the preparation of papers and oral presentations. Basic Requirement: 1. Degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR 2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in 1 above. (NOTE: Unofficial and official transcripts are acceptable. Failure to submit transcripts will result in non-consideration for this position). Selective Placement Factor, as a minimum qualification, the agency is considering candidates with Military, DOD, governmental, or civilian experience especially in the areas of national security and homeland security. Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the federal government, or comparable experience not gained through federal service, performing duties such as: Plan, develop, and teach instructional Homeland Security programs. Oversee the development of core curriculum and programs of instruction in support of homeland/national security. Prepare and deliver instruction in subjects relating to national security policy, nation strategy and other homeland security topics. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
