This position is located in Quantico, VA. This position(s) serves as the unit chief to senior chemist and trainers supporting the chemist training programs.

Job Duties
As a your typical work assignments may include: Exercises supervisory and/or managerial authorities and provides occupational specific technical and administrative direction at least 25% or more of the time over subordinate employee performing the work and functions of the organization. Ensures that the work of the section/unit employees complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets agency or customer needs. Serves as an expert in forensic drug analysis, specifically responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, and directing entry-level, in-service, and specialized training programs for DEA forensic chemists. Projects and plans, on a fiscal year basis, all of the unit's forensic chemist training classes, which are conducted by assigned staff, temporary duty, and contractual personnel. Allocates manpower resources for the unit and estimates expenses and equipment needs for each school.

Basic Qualification Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following qualification requirements: (A). Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR (B). Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicants applying for the GS-14 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following skills which enables the chemist to serve as a technical authority and instructor to administer the training program for forensic chemists. Understanding the operation of Forensic Sciences laboratory operations, laboratory accreditation requirements. Knowledge of Federal laws, agency regulations, standard operating procedures, and guidelines pertaining to forensic chemistry to implement and conduct ongoing reviews of technological improvements and the suitability of new products for use.
